The Wájaro Foundation is actively working to develop partnerships with North American and Colombian churches. Wájaro’s interest is in developing partnerships that are mutually beneficial. The invitation to churches is to partner with Wájaro by offering financial resources and/or spiritual accompaniment. Wájaro on the other hand, aims to support the local mission of partner churches by hosting periodic mission trips that are a vehicle for experiential learning, relational engagement and theological reflection, and ultimately, that contribute to the spiritual and leadership formation of their visiting members.
With strong roots in East-Central Indiana, the Wájaro Foundation is in the process of developing its first official international partnership with a network of churches from the same region. Over the course of the past ten months, Wájaro representatives have made several visits to East-Central Indiana to begin a dialogue with different churches about the work and vision of Wájaro. As a result of this visit, multiple teams made up of church representatives will be visiting this year and the next. Instead of a “mission trip,” centered on what visitors come and “do”, this trip focuses on what visitors come and “see”—namely what God is doing through the local, grassroots processes that Wájaro is accompanying in indigenous and vulnerable communities throughout Colombia. The hope is that this visit and ensuing conversations develop into a long-term partnership that benefits both Wájaro and the individual churches that are part of the network.
